Irish comedy special: Brendan Hickey & John O’Keeffe

Irish wit, failed philosophy and Catholic guilt: Brendan Hickey and award-winning John O’Keeffe share the bill for a Friday night of standup in English at Republic of Comedy.

Two Irish comedians. One Friday night in Lisbon. Republic of Comedy presents Brendan Hickey and John O’Keeffe for an evening of standup in English: failed philosophy, Catholic guilt and the everyday business of trying to get your life together.

Brendan Hickey

Irish to a fault, Brendan Hickey has been performing in the Berlin scene for over 10 years. He is the co-founder of Epic Comedy Berlin. His comedy style blends the musings of a failed philosopher with the repressed anger of a failed Catholic. The result is a hilarious and always original style that has made audiences split sides in Berlin and throughout Europe.

John O’Keeffe

John has established himself as one of the most exciting stand-ups emerging in the Irish comedy scene. Winner of the “Best New Act” Award at the 2019 Bray Comedy Festival, and praised for his likeability, comedy writing and stage presence, he has performed with top comedians such as Michelle Wolf, Joanne McNally, David O’Doherty and Neil Delamere. He opened for Steve Hofstetter on his 2024 European tour.

His comedy is personal and upbeat, sometimes dark, with honest stories and plenty of Irish sarcasm.
