What does it take to bring a little piece of Ireland to Lisbon? For Fergal Titley, Founder of The Wake, the answer lies somewhere between a good pint, a strong sense of community, and the courage to build something of your own.
Join the Ireland Portugal Business Network (IPBN) on Tuesday, 17 November, from 09:30 to 11:00, at The Wake Lisboa, for a new edition of Conversation with a Leader. IPBN Board Member Rachael Milne will sit down with Fergal to explore his journey from Ireland to New York City and, ultimately, Lisbon, where he turned his experience behind the bar into a business inspired by the traditions of the Irish pub.
Described as an “Irish publican, entrepreneur, and occasional actor” who traded the bright lights of NYC for the sunshine of Lisbon, Fergal knows a thing or two about making a place feel like home. During his time in New York, he worked as a bartender and then became a partner at the legendary Peter Dillon’s Irish pub on 36th Street. Inspired by the spirit of that experience, he went on to create The Wake, bringing his own take on Irish hospitality to the Portuguese capital.
In conversation with Rachael, Fergal will share the story behind that journey, reflecting on the intersections of work, culture, entrepreneurship, and community. From building a business in a new country to preserving the character of Irish pub culture in an international city, the discussion will explore what it takes to turn an idea into a gathering place, and how cultural connections can create opportunities on both sides of the border.
Whether you are an entrepreneur, a business owner, or simply curious about the people and stories shaping Lisbon’s international community, this is an opportunity to hear a first-hand perspective on building a life and business across cultures.
Register to join the conversation, meet Fergal and Rachael, and stay afterwards for networking with fellow IPBN members and guests. Come for the conversation, stay for the connections.
