We Are Not Afraid to Love: A Creative Writing Workshop with Mai Serhan & Nur Turkmani

How have others written about love, and how might we write about it ourselves?

Originally developed for a three-day writing retreat in Cairo, this workshop now travels to Lisbon, carrying with it questions of the erotic, the impossible, and the everyday.

Together, we’ll read and respond to selected poems and prose by writers including Hisham Matar, Toni Morrison, Arundhati Roy, Rabih Alameddine, Danusha Lameris, Frank O’Hara, and Anne Carson.

Through guided writing prompts, we’ll turn to our own idiosyncratic ways of experiencing love, and see what emerges when we put them into words.

Come ready to read, write, and surprise yourself.

Time: 12–4 PM

Location: Casa Palestina, Lisbon

Cost: €30 to €50, sliding scale. Please contribute whatever feels comfortable for you within this range.

Places: Limited to 15 participants

All genres and levels are welcome. No previous writing experience is necessary.
